ClimaTwin Enabling Leadership in AI for Weather and Climate

ClimaTwin®, the leading climate risk intelligence solution for infrastructure assets and the built environment, is proud to participate in the “Enabling US Leadership in Artificial Intelligence for Weather” event sponsored by the National Academy of Sciences, Board on Atmospheric Sciences and Climate. Accordingly, artificial intelligence (AI) is rapidly changing the landscape to forecast future weather and model climate extremes. The meeting provides an overview of weather, climate, and AI today and in the future as a foundation for the US to lead in weather forecasting and climate modeling. Further, the meeting also explores numerous opportunities and challenges for facilitating new partnerships across academia, government, and industry. Artificial Intelligence (AI) is increasingly used to model and simulate climate change to better understand its complex dynamics and future impacts. AI algorithms can analyze vast amounts of data from various sources, such as satellite imagery, atmospheric measurements, and climate models, to identify patterns and reveal trends human analysts cannot detect. Foundational Research Gaps and Future Directions for Digital Twin Technologies

In various fields of science and engineering, growing enthusiasm exists for the potential of digital twins to revolutionize scientific research and industrial processes. A digital twin combines computational models with a physical counterpart to form a system that continuously updates through two-way data flows as conditions change. Digital twins possess the potential to go beyond traditional simulation and modeling, empowering predictions of future weather and climate conditions over long periods, and safer and more efficient engineering processes. However, stakeholders must address critical challenges to unlock the full benefit of digital twins.

Accordingly, the National Academies hosts a webinar on Friday, December 15, 2023, to delve into a new report on the fundamental research and resources necessary to advance digital twin technologies. Further, the new report highlights crucial areas for future research and presents an interdisciplinary research agenda, with recommendations on how federal agencies and researchers from different fields can effectively collaborate. During the webinar, committee members discuss the report’s key findings and relevant recommendations.

ASCE Future Weather & Climate Extreme Series Three: Coastal Adaptation

The American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) announces the Future Weather & Climate Extreme Series — the third series of virtual events continue to explore the 2021 ASCE publication “Impacts of Future Weather and Climate Extremes on United States Infrastructure: Assessing and Prioritizing Adaptation Actions.” Prepared by the Task Committee on Future Weather and Climate Extremes of the Committee on Adaptation to a Changing Climate of the ASCE, the publication was authored by Mari R. Tye and Jason P. Giovannettone, with contributions by Amir AghaKouchak, R. Edward Beighley, and many other subject matter experts. The three sessions of the upcoming series feature: Coastal Adaptation & Resilience in Virginia; Climate Change Adaptation for New York City Structures and Infrastructures; and, Climate Change Adaptation for Canadian Core Public Structures and Infrastructures. For more information, “Impacts of Future Weather and Climate Extremes on United States Infrastructure: Assessing and Prioritizing Adaptation Actions” is available for digital download in the ASCE Library.
